An unforgettable evening with Butch Hancock: West Texas Renaissance man, and one of the state’s most revered songwriters!
He, Adrienne, and their 9-year-old, Rory, seemed like old friends from the moment they arrived at Blue Rock. That very morning, Butch announced a new album, War and Peace, on KGSR in Austin and then played us seven brand new songs from it. Remarkable and timely. Butch also gave us some great renditions of his classics such as “Spit and Slide” and “Julia.” Engineer Keith Gary recorded the show and we also captured HD video for the artist and our archives. The following morning, the curator of the Southwestern Writers Collection, Connie Todd, and historian, Steve Davis, were with us to interview Butch for The Blue Rock Review and for the collection at Texas State University. Butch Hancock’s creative life proves a force like the West Texas wind he sings about. Thanks, Butch, and to all!
