Ellis Paul
Studio Concert Series: Ellis Paul
Thursday, May 10, 2007
Ellis Paul’s concert was simply stellar and his time at Blue Rock was a kind of homecoming for all of us.
His visit was like an old friend returning with fresh stories and songs. Folks from Pittsburg, Washington DC, and Norman, as well as some of our favorite Austinites and Wimberley friends, came out for the show. Ellis was in terrific form, playing and singing with soul and precision. Some of the highlights were “Maria’s Beautiful Mess,” “Jukebox on my Grave,” and two fun new children’s songs – “Dragonfly Races” and “Million Chameleon March.”
It was a beautiful Spring evening at Blue Rock. At one point Ellis stopped singing and invited us all to take in the last moments of the sunset off the back porch. A great moment was when Ellis unplugged his guitar and walked out into the room to sing and play completely acoustically.
This flying without a net shows the essential power of a song when in the hands of a master and inspired by great listening.
Our remarkable evening with Ellis was captured in HD video and multitrack audio by Blue Rock Studios’ excellent tech team. Lots of desserts and coffees were enjoyed, benefiting our new Wimberley Community Center. Everybody seemed to make new friends and a memory that will echo long and far.
Thanks to all of our gracious volunteers - we couldn’t do it without you. Enjoy these photos by Nathan Brown.
