Was great to see and hear Ellis again. This time he brought new tunes, a new CD, and sideman Matt Hebert. Every song an event - short stories with soaring melodies. Thanks everybody for another great evening.
Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. He is credited as one of the key artists in the wave of Boston singer-songwriters that revitalized the folk music scene in the 90’s. Ellis’ songs have appeared in many movies and television productions including “Me Myself and Irene” with Jim Carrey and “Shallow Hal” with Jack Black.
Ellis grew up in rural Northern Maine and played trumpet in his high school band. He landed a track scholarship at Boston College, but suffered a career-ending knee injury. During his recovery, he discovered songwriting and was soon sharing the Boston open-mic scene with Dar Williams, Vance Gilbert, Patty Griffin, Martin Sexton and Jonatha Brooke.
The rest is history. Ellis has won 13 Boston Music Awards since 1993 and recorded 14 albums. He was invited by the Woody Guthrie family to be part of several projects including the chance to write music for an unpublished Guthrie lyric and to join in an all-star tribute tour.
His two latest projects include, “Dragonfly Races,” his first inspired by and for children and “A Summer Night in Greogia—Live from Eddie’s Attic.”
Ellis returns to a homecoming for his fans in Texas. We are excited to welcome him back to Blue Rock Studio.

Another delightful evening at Blue Rock Studio, with the hugely talented Ellis Paul as this month’s charmer. Blue Rock never disappoints or ceases to amaze. In addition to the always gracious Billy and Dodee Crockett offering a world-class recording facility and a unique and intimate venue, they also provide their guests with a monthly workshop on “Artists You Probably Don’t Know… But Should.” Ellis Paul was charming and sublime, impossibly talented, and gifted with a seemingly boundless vocal range. Another perfect night at Blue Rock. Thank you, Ellis Paul… and thank you, Billy and Dodee Crockett!
