Studio Concert Series: Issa (Formerly Jane Siberry) Trio with guest Adrienne Pierce

Issa (with bandmates Tim Ray and Rich Brown) provided us with an experience that was indescribably beautiful. This is art song with emotional fearlessness. And a great band, too. Please enjoy these photos taken by Rodney Bursiel.
Issa (say “eeee-sah”), the artist formerly known as Jane Siberry, is internationally renowned for her angelic, filmic, and wonderfully compelling music. From her thirteen recordings, Issa has garnered five Juno nominations, gold sales status, and several People’s Choice Awards in her native Canada. Her performances across Europe, Japan, and Australia have been called “heart stopping” and “spellbinding” by the press.
Issa has recorded with Bryan Ferry, K.D. Lang, Indigo Girls, and Peter Gabriel. Her Brian Eno collaboration, When I Was A Boy, brought to life the song, “Calling All Angels,” which appeared in Wim Wender’s film, Until The End Of The World. This song also appeared in the soundtrack for the film, Pay It Forward, and an episode of the series, Six Feet Under.
An ever-changing iconoclast, Issa recently gave up her birth name, her Toronto home, her car, her electric guitar, and just about all of her possessions, including the masters of her recordings as Jane Siberry. (She’s keeping the Manolo shoes and her collection of Miles Davis records, however.) The music she makes is given away for free or a listener-determined fair price.
Issa offers absorbing concerts with music that comes from deep personal spaces. This rare Blue Rock performance will include pianist Tim Ray, bassist Rich Brown, and special guest artist Adrienne Pierce.

A very interesting evening. I brought 4 friends who could not get enough of Issa. My missionary best friend, Donna Campbell, says “I’m not through with that lady.” She was completely taken by Issa’s entire persona. Thank you so much for a special and inspiring event. Love to you both, Nancie Austin

Issa’s show last night is still reverberating through my heart, soul and body…it was an unbelievable evening of beauty and mirth.

Thank you for a magnificent evening. Seeing Issa last night and being part of that magical evening was the brightest spark in a very hectic week. I cannot imagine an artist that better embodies the spirit of Blue Rock than Issa. She was an absolute delight and I came home & you-tubed her for about 1.5 hours! Thank you both for making your dream one that we can all share and enjoy and I look forward the Teri Hendrix event in December.

Opened this cowboy’s ears for sure. This music thing is incredible. Issa Jane is playing on the stereo now and the horses and I can’t get enough.
