“Macarthur Park is melting in the dark…”

“By the time I get to Phoenix she’ll be rising…”

“And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line…”

Jimmy Webb’s sprawling list of accomplishments have taken him to the rare artistic and commercial stratosphere.  Bursting onto the scene with five top ten hits in the late sixties, Webb’s songs have been recorded by Glen Cambpell, Richard Harris, Frank Sinatra, Linda Rondstadt, Joe Cocker, Art Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, among others.  His classic song “Wichita Lineman” (hailed the greatest song of all time in Blender’s Oct/Nov 2001 issue and listed in MOJO Magazine’s worldwide survey of the best one hundred singles of all time), earned James Taylor a “best male pop vocal” Grammy nomination this past year.  Other classic songs include “The Highwayman,” “Galveston,” and “If These Walls Could Speak.”

Jimmy is a multiple Grammy winner (the only musician to ever receive awards for lyrics, music, and orchestration), a member of the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, and serves on ASCAP’s board of directors.  He has scored and arranged for major motion pictures and television series, including The Santa Clause, “Tales from the Crypt”, and “E/R”.  His book about songwriting, entitled Tunesmith, is a bestseller and is regarded as “the Bible of songwriting” by many esteemed peers.  Simply put, Jimmy Webb’s cultural influence is profound.

Come join us in giving a warm central Texas welcome to one of the greatest there is.

Hi Billy and Dodee,
What a delight was Jimmy Webb!  I was spellbound.  Thank you so much for making these outstanding evenings possible right here in our neighborhood. OXO.
Temple

Thank you again for another incredible show last night .... Jimmy Webb was amazing!  He is my all time favorite songwriter and pianist.  My senior recital piece was “MacArthur Park” and what a thrill to hear him do that last night as well as all his incredible compositions over the years.  ... Such a thrill for me to be there and to get to meet him!!!

How truly lovely a night.

Beyond Jimmy Webb’s music and stories, of course through them,
comes his genuinely human self.
He’s a loving and loyal musical treasure.

Jimmy Webb’s performance last night was quite memorable. As a kid in the 60s, I had every Glen Campbell album that Glen put out in the 60s. My friends were into rock and roll. I was into songs, especially interesting songs. Jimmy wrote the soundtrack for much of my childhood. It was wonderful to hear his songs straight from the source. His stories were especially interesting, too.

I am still floating from Thursday’s performance!!!

...as I began relating the wonderful stories Jimmy
told of… “common men thinking uncommon thoughts”, of “the defensive lineman from Wichita”, of being lifted up by the thoughtfulness of greats like Sinatra and Campbell taking time to acknowledge the songwriters;  all this coupled with the expressive piano work ...  What a memorable experience and I am a richer man today for having had the privilege of being there.

I just viewed the video. Wow…I wasn’t there. When he returns, I will not make the mistake of not being there! Wichita Lineman was one of my favorite songs, and I still have it.. on vinyl!
