Mac McAnally
Studio Concert Series: Mac McAnally
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Mac was in his element, weaving his brilliantly crafted songs with the more than amusing true-life stories that inspired them. A truly magnetic evening.
Mac McAnally’s songs are unmatched in narrative power, melodic and literary appeal. Over 30 national recording artists such as Jimmy Buffet, Sawyer Brown, T.G. Sheppard, and Alabama, have recorded songs written by Mac. In 2007, he was welcomed into the ranks of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Mac has recorded and/or toured with Roy Orbison, Nanci Griffith, Linda Rondstadt, Hank Williams Jr., Amy Grant, Travis Tritt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Alabama, and Patty Loveless.
As a member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, Mac has written songs for and with Buffett, including “Coast of Carolina” and the classic hit, “It’s My Job.” Other of Mac’s many gems are “All These Years” (also a Sawyer Brown hit), “Down the Road,” “Ordinary Girl,” and “Only Passing Through.”
Born in Belmont, Mississippi, Mac’s songs revolve around stories of the South as well as realities of the world. The delivery is casual, full of laughs, and of hard-won perspective.
Blue Rock Studio presented Mac McAnally with great pleasure. Thank you to all who helped to make a remarkable evening in the Hill Country with an artist who elevates the power of this art form. Enjoy these photos by Rodney Bursiel and Nathan Brown.

Billy Hollis says:
Mac Mcanally wove simple and profound narratives onto a canvas of acoustic landscape. His bright “Travis Style” picking and warm “thumps” on his warn guitar brought a history and musical integrity to his performance unlike many shows you’ll ever see.
Mac’s stories were engaging. His smile was contageous. And his honesty was a warm cup of coffee. Mac’s stories and his music were so tightly tied together, that even within the fiction of his writing, the listener found autobiographical truth. Mac was a delight to see and a treasure to hear. If I wasn’t a fan before, I am one now.
Sylvie Salinas says:
Mac Mcanally spoke to my heart through his beautiful, down to earth lyrics, sung authentically from his heart. He is an endearing, de-light-ful master storyteller! I personally related to all his tales, and felt as though I’ve known him for a long long time.
Thank you, Blue Rock, for your beautiful, warm, down home environment. The stone walls resonante with stories & music of times long past. I felt so comfortable & welcomed, I almost forgot to leave! I am grateful for the opportunity to be included in your graceful events!
