Steve Forbert

Studio Concert Series: Steve Forbert

Steve delivered a compelling show of old hits and new songs to an incredibly enthusiastic, packed out Blue Rock audience.

“Music should be truthful and real, but it should also be healing and uplifting,” Steve Forbert says.  “Russian novels, film noir and Charles Bukowski are all OK by me, but as a recording artist I’m with Brian Wilson; I aspire to make music that makes people feel better.”

In the past quarter-century, the Mississippi-bred, Nashville-based singer/songwriter has built a deeply personal body of work that’s won him a reputation for clear-eyed insight and plainspoken eloquence.  He has a Grammy nomination and has collaborated with Edie Brickell, noted upright bassist Viktor Krauss, guitarist/banjoist Bryan Sutton, renowned steel guitarist Dan Dugmore, and many other musical luminaries.

Forbert’s classic “Romeo’s Tune,” newly rendered on his latest, Strange Names & New Sensations, along with his classic “Goin’ Down to Laurel,” have both been licensed for a movie called Margot at the Wedding, starring Nicole Kidman and Jack Black and slated for a fall 2007 release.

I was there and it was WONDERFUL. Steve’s voice never sounded so good. This is an excellent venue, the acoustics were close to PERFECT. But of course Steve sounds good anywhere.

If it was released on DVD I’d certainly buy it…

Please, please , put it on DVD.
Steve never plays (when in europe) in the Netherlands.
The one clip makes me hungry for more.
Steve is still one of the best songwriters/performers out there…

I always catch his Memphis shows.  Wish he came here more often.

Steve is truly a major player when it comes to writing and singing. Long live Steve Forbert.
P.S. Please come back to Houston, Texas and let us enjoy him too.

Steve is an unbelievable artist. I am going to see him again, 4th time in 6 months. I have to say his voice along w/his stage presense/talent is just awesome. I have been a true fan of Steve’s for many yrs. 30! I dont want to give up my age wink but lets just say, I was a teenager & LOVING his stuff ‘back in the day’ as I do today.
