The Band of Heathens
Studio Concert Series: The Band of Heathens

Angelic Heathens! These guys gave us an acoustic show we won’t forget. Thanks to Gordy, Colin, Ed, Seth and John for an experience as much fun as it was excellent. Photos by Rodney Bursiel and Nathan Brown.
A few years ago, everyone in Austin was hearing about the “Good Time Supper Club” every Wednesday night at MoMo’s…a new group comprised of three singer/songwriters (Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi, and Gordy Quist) that happened to turn into a band after regularly sharing the stage. After a misprint in the paper referred to the act as “The Heathens,” The Band of Heathens was born. Though they already have two live albums under their belt, their self-titled studio debut (produced by local legend Ray Wylie Hubbard) was released last year. With an international touring schedule, guest appearances from the likes of Patty Griffin, Gurf Morlix, and Ray Wylie himself, The Heathens are poised to honor their title as “Best New Band” at the 2006/2007 Austin Music Awards.

I’ve been fortunate to see the meteoric rise of this band. They are friendly, talented, dedicated and don’t take themselves too seriously…a recipe for success in my book. What a night!
A special thanks to Dodee, Billy, Caron, Keith and the rest of the Blue Rock gang for providing such a perfect venue and atmosphere. I look forward to seeing y’all soon!
